Spotlight on Teachers: Preschool Director Christine Missakian

We’re excited to kick off our new Spotlight series with Christine Missakian, our incredible Preschool Director!

ABOUT CHRISTINE

With years of experience in the early education classroom, a wealth of innovative strategies, and a genuine passion for helping students and teachers succeed, Christine is a guiding light for those on their pedagogical journey. Her dedication goes beyond teaching students; Christine is deeply committed to fostering growth and confidence in fellow educators, offering practical insights and real-world solutions.

Christine joined NMS in 2004 as a Preschool faculty member, transitioning to the role of Director after six years in the classroom. Her extensive career in child development includes serving as head teacher and program coordinator at the Yeladim Childcare Center in Woodbridge, where she established and served as program coordinator for their half-day preschool, and teaching at Leila Day Nursery School. Christine holds a BS in early childhood education from Central Michigan State University and pursued graduate studies at Southern Connecticut State University. All three of her children attended the Preschool at NMS.

Christine’s influence extends far beyond the classroom. She’s a trusted resource for parents, colleagues, and teaching artists alike, often sought out for her thoughts on parenting challenges, and guidance on fostering creativity and confidence in children. In fact, several of our current staff members and teaching artists credit their time in NMS’s Preschool as the foundation for their love of the arts.

Christine is not only an educator—she’s a mentor, leader, and a cherished member of the NMS community, inspiring excellence and collaboration every day.
