The Preparatory Division (grades 3–5) is for our youngest students. Students enrolled in lessons, a theory class, and an ensemble at NMS are eligible for the Preparatory Division. A teacher recommendation is required for acceptance into the program. Students meet for a monthly workshop, and have two solo and two ensemble performances throughout the year.
The Junior Division builds upon everything learned in the Preparatory Division, providing a well-rounded and rigorous education in performance, musical collaboration, and theory. Students enrolled in lessons, a theory class, and an ensemble at NMS are eligible for the Junior Division. A teacher recommendation and student/family interview are required for acceptance into the program. Students meet for a monthly workshop and have two annual performance juries. Upon completion of the program, they are awarded a Junior Diploma.
The Senior Division is our most rigorous course of study for students preparing to play or sing at the conservatory level. Students enrolled in lessons, a theory class, and an ensemble at NMS are eligible for the Senior Division. A teacher recommendation, student/family interview, and audition are required for acceptance into the program. Students meet for a monthly workshop, have two annual performance juries, and perform a senior recital. Upon completion of the program, they are awarded a Senior Diploma.

The dance path encompasses solo, class, and ensemble dancing, choreography, and performance techniques. Students also explore the historical context of different dance genres and the pioneers who shaped them. The program runs 32 weeks, September through May.

Students enrolled in weekly one-on-one lessons, an NMS dance ensemble, and our Dance Theory class are eligible for the Senior Division. In Dance Theory, students study dance pioneers and influencers and create short solo studies inspired by their work, which they present for peer feedback at monthly Performance Workshops. Twice a year, students perform solos developed in their lessons for a jury of Dance Teaching Artists and receive written feedback, and they close the year performing in the annual Dance Concert. A teacher recommendation, student/family interview, and audition are required for acceptance into the program. Upon completion of the program, students are awarded a Senior Diploma.
