Young Artist Diploma Custom Ensembles Junior Dance Company

GNHYE Auditions

Mid-year auditions are Saturday, January 24, 2026.
‍Time slots can be selected via the application on a first-come-first-served basis.

Application deadline: Friday, January 23, at 5 p.m. or when all time slots have been taken.

Now is your chance to join other middle and high school students to explore celebrated classical pieces and develop crucial performance skills. Students are provided with an unforgettable creative experience while making lifelong friends along the way.

These auditioned ensembles are directed by professional conductors and rehearse weekly. Enrollment in music lessons at NMS is not a prerequisite for joining the GNHYE, but it is certainly encouraged.

Premier Ensembles

These tuition-free ensembles offer a unique combination of advanced playing and service to the NMS community. Coveted spots in the NMS Premier Ensembles are for students who play at the highest level of artistry and who are committed to sharing their music and personal NMS experiences with the larger community.

Jazz & Rock Ensembles

Submissions for the 2025–2026 academic year are closed.

Our Jazz & Rock Ensembles offer something for everyone—from Big Band and Latin Jazz to classic and British Rock. These groups are a great way to deepen your skills, explore different styles, and collaborate with other musicians in a supportive, high-level setting. Open to students of various ages and experience levels—come find your rhythm with us!

Returning students do not need to audition—contact Student Services to enroll.

Young Artist Diploma, Senior Division

Submissions for the 2025–2026 academic year are closed.

The Senior Division of our Young Artist Diploma Program is the most rigorous course of study for students preparing to play or sing at the conservatory level. Students enrolled in lessons, a theory class, and an ensemble at NMS are eligible for the Senior Division. A teacher recommendation, student/family interview, and audition are required for acceptance into the program. Students meet for a monthly workshop, have two annual performance juries, and perform a senior recital. Upon completion of the program, they are awarded a Senior Diploma.

Custom Ensembles

We believe that music is best enjoyed with others. At NMS, students of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to join an ensemble—whether it’s a string quartet, jazz combo, rock band, or something entirely new. We’ll help you find or create the right group.

Ensembles meet regularly with a teaching artist and offer performance opportunities. Students enrolled in 16+ individual lessons at NMS receive 25% off ensembles of three or more. Not taking lessons at NMS? You’re still welcome to join.

CUSTOM ENSEMBLES

NMS Junior Dance Company

Submissions for the 2025–2026 academic year are closed.

The NMS Junior Dance Company gives young dancers the chance to build skills, express themselves, and collaborate through choreography. Members are expected to commit to multiple performances each year, attend at least one hour of technique classes weekly, and participate in a 60-minute Repertoire Workshop. Course opportunities include but are not limited to: ballet, tap, modern dance, and hip-hop. The intention of this program is for the company members to gain confidence and experience to communicate through the art of dance.
