Kristen Nwanyanwu

Dr. Nwanyanwu is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon and an NIH-funded health equity researcher.  She graduated with highest honors from the University of Michigan and graduated with a combined MD/MBA from the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School. She builds sustainable solutions to decrease health disparities in diabetic retinopathy in pursuit of her goal to decrease preventable blindness. Her NIH-funded lab centers around the Sight-Saving Engagement and Evaluation in New Haven (SEEN) Program that pairs risk stratification with patient navigation to assist those at high risk for diabetic retinopathy. She is an Associate Professor at the Yale School of Medicine in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science.

Dr. Nwanyanwu has two budding violinists learning at NMS. Concert piano was an important part of her childhood and she shares her love of music with her entire family.

"I joined the board because I am passionate about music and community. I am excited to support NMS as it grows its relationship with the New Haven Community and continues to give the multi-generational gift of music."
