Rebecca (Becky) Flores Harper (she | her | ella) is a bicultural, multilingual Mexican-American adoptee, educator, and coach with nearly 15 years of experience in education. A lifelong New Haven resident and proud graduate of New Haven Public Schools, Becky has taught and coached from pre-school through postgraduate levels—always with a deep commitment to uplifting children, families, and the collective community.
For over a decade, Becky has served as a leader in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, Belonging, and Accessibility (DEIJBA) work, and she is currently the Director of Equity and Community at Hopkins School, her alma mater. In 2021, she founded AuthenTEACHCity, an initiative designed to support educators, organizations, and community members in building authentic and equity-centered practices. Alongside her educational leadership, Becky has spent twelve years coaching soccer across Southern Connecticut and currently leads the Career-Hillhouse girls’ program, continuing her investment in local youth and athletics.
The arts have been a constant thread throughout Becky’s life. She began her journey at the Neighborhood Music School’s Audubon Arts Summer Program as a teenager and flex-counselor and then as the Art Director for six transformational summers, shaping her philosophy that children’s creativity should always be at the center of education. A former piano player, choral singer, lifelong lover of Latin dance, and practicing visual artist, Becky continues to create in her art studio at Erector Square.
For Becky, joining the board of the Neighborhood Music School is both an honor and a homecoming—an opportunity to give back to a place that nurtured her passions and helped her grow into the educator, artist, and community member she is today.
