Matthew Salomon holds a BM in Viola Performance from Shenandoah Conservatory, where he also earned his MM and AD in orchestral conducting under Maestro Jan Wagner. Over the past 15 years, Matthew has maintained an active musical career while also serving as a full-time music teacher in public and private schools for over a decade. Matthew has performed as a professional violist with numerous orchestras, including the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra, Two Rivers Symphony Orchestra, Opera Camerata of Washington and the Maryland Philharmonic.
In addition to teaching and performing, Matthew also actively pursued a career as a conductor. During his tenure as the Music Director and Conductor for the Repertory Opera Theater of Washington, a review of Don Giovanni in the Washington Post stated that “Matthew Salomon conducted with considerable skill and assurance.” He has worked with youth and community orchestras in various roles, served as the assistant conductor for collegiate orchestras and on tour in Europe, and performed as a guest conductor at festivals, including the International Gathering of Youth Orchestras.
Matthew Salomon is excited to be joining the faculty at Neighborhood Music School in his native Connecticut. He is well aware how important music is to each student who falls in love with it, and how great an impact music can have on someone when we least expect it.
