Over the last few months, our NMS community has come together with students and faculty from Cooperative Arts Magnet High School and High School in the Community to create this beautiful online ensemble. Arranged by Tom Duffy, conductor of the Greater New Haven Youth Orchestra at NMS, Meguru is a traditional African hymn of humble supplication asking for divine help, sung in the Kavango language of eastern Namibia: “Lord you are up there, we are down here, have mercy on us.” In Tom Duffy’s words, “It is simple, tonal, extremely poignant, and its theme perfectly addresses the sentiments of this anxious time.” Music and community go hand in hand, creating a transcendent bond that defies our isolation. We are thrilled to share this moving performance with you!
