Looking Out for Lea

For NMS parents Christa and Mike Doran, the unimaginable became reality this past August when their six-year-old daughter Lea, a former NMS preschool student, was diagnosed with a high-grade diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a rare and inoperable brain tumor. Approximately 300 children are diagnosed with DIPG in the United States each year, usually between the ages of 5 and 9.

The Dorans have been part of the NMS community for several years. Lea’s older sister, Livia, now a third grader, attended our preschool program, and her younger sister, Keira, is currently in preschool Room 1.

For those who might want to support this amazing little girl and her family during a truly challenging time, you can assist with medical and other expenses through their personal blog, which includes a donation page as well as a link to upcoming fundraisers: http://lessonsfromlea.com/donate/. You may also visit their GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/4dbf0gg.

We know that NMS is made up of supportive, caring individuals and we are proud to be part of this wonderful community. Thank you for thinking of the Doran family and please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Sincerely,

Christine Missakian, NMS Preschool Director & Cara McDonough, NMS Community Engagement Coordinator and preschool parent
