Audubon Arts

Audubon Arts Starts In:

Fun. Creative. Child-centered. Adaptive. Magical. Supportive. Wacky!

These are just some words that have been used to describe the Audubon Arts experience. Last summer, we added “IN PERSON” to that list, and for Summer 2022, we will be ALL HERE TOGETHER AGAIN!

In 2021, we were thrilled to be back in person, enjoying a summer of creative collaboration in our small-group cohorts. This year, now that all participants and staff will be vaccinated, we will once again enjoy our cherished program-wide traditions of morning and afternoon songs and lunchtime concert – ALL TOGETHER!

Color Groups

Children in grades K-12 participate in age-based groups, accompanied by warm and supportive counselors who work with the children throughout the day. Enjoying activities designed to encourage self-expression and creativity, each group has drama, dance, music, art, movement, and outside time every day. Under the guidance of our experienced artistic staff, their work culminates in performances of one-of-a-kind musical theatre shows!

For Summer 2022, we will have 6 groups, named after colors (Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red and Black – more commonly known as Theatre). Kids enroll based on their current grade, and the Audubon Arts Director will assign final groups. We are thrilled to announce that our Theatre Group will be staging a full book musical this year!

Artistic Productions

Over the course of a three-week session, each group (Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red) creates its own original musical theatre production. Participants contribute ideas for plot, dialogue, and characters, and they create the sets, costumes, and props. Each session of Audubon Arts culminates in vibrant in-house Color Group performances.

Our Theatre Group will stage two evening showings of their full-book musical theatre production! All 6 weeks will be needed to put that show up, so there is only a Full Session option for our high schoolers. The last Theatre Group show was The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Stay tuned for the announcement of our 2022 show!

Daily Schedule

We begin each day together for a program-wide morning check-in, when we all sing one of our traditional morning songs. Each Color Group then heads to their “den” where they have morning meeting and discussion time. Next comes music, drama, dance, creative intensives, workshop, and visual arts, according to our daily schedule. Everyone has an opportunity to go outside each day for free play. Midday, we will have two lunch waves, then enjoy a daily “open mic” concert together, and we rejoin at the end of each day to sing one of our afternoon songs before dismissal.

Dates:

  • Session 1 (3 weeks): June 27 – July 15
  • Session 2 (3 weeks): July 18 – August 5
  • Full Session (6 weeks): June 27 – August 5
    • Please note that we are closed on Monday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day.

Daily Dose of Fun!

Every day, participants are busy working together with their friends and our caring supportive staff to create unique shows with drama, dance, music, and art. Our Lunchtime Concerts are held outdoors in the Park of the Arts, right behind NMS, and feature Audubon Arts participants, staff, and special guests. All are welcome to share a talent! Midweek, everyone looks forward to Wacky Wednesdays, when kids and adults come to Audubon Arts in madcap outfits and off-the-wall attire. Your child’s summer experience at Audubon Arts will include many songs, smiles, cheers, and much laughter!

Health Measures

The safety and good health of our participants and staff is our top concern. All participants and staff are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. We will follow all current NMS Covid Guidelines, which are regularly updated in response to current public health guidance. You can find our current guidelines here.
