After-School Arts Academy
ASAA is a one-of-a-kind program that gives children the chance to explore through creative experiences, while receiving a high-level arts education and making new friends in a diverse community. Each day features a different artistic focus, and begins with an interactive tutoring session geared towards collaborative problem solving, goal setting and self-reflection. This flexible and affordable program allows families to choose between enrolling for one, two, three or four afternoons.

Who: Students in grades 3-5
Where: Neighborhood Music School, 100 Audubon St., New Haven
When: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursday and/or Friday 3:30-6:00 pm*
*Families have a choice of registering for one, two, three or all days. Students with late dismissals should contact Student Services at 203-624-5189.
Why: To offer creative outlets and critical after-school care for students, centered on:
- Collaborative problem solving
- Goal setting
- Enhancing written communication skills
- Practicing speaking and listening to improve oral communication
- Developing a “growth mindset”, allowing students to embrace their true potential
Each day starts with snack and an interactive tutoring session centered on journal writing, self-reflection, conversation and academic support. Program features public presentations of original works by the participating students in collaboration with each other and NMS faculty and tutors/mentors. Each 17-week session (T, W, Th or F) is just $500. Our program provides exciting, creative and high-quality after-school care for less than $30 a day!

Sliding scale for cost of tuition makes this an affordable program for all.
If your family’s income is:
up to $70,000 = tuition is free
$70,001 – $85,000 = $250 for 17 weeks (T, W, Th or F)
$85,001 – $100,000 = $375 for 17 weeks (T, W, Th or F)
over $100,000 = $500 for 17 weeks (T, W, Th or F)
Tuition will be prorated based on start date.

Dance and Drum
A tour of world dancing and drumming, exploring the relationship between rhythm and movement while learning all about new cultures.
Magical Movie Maker
Students create original short films and music videos, learning how to craft a personal story while receiving hands-on production training.
A fun approach to musicianship, based on the idea that the instrument in your hand mirrors the one in the mind, including activities such as singing, theory games, rhythm study and DoSo guitar.
Pans and Plays
Learn how music can tell stories and how stories are enhanced by music. Using Steel Pans and Acting as a platform to explore, students create music and plays independently and then perform them together!
