1st Annual Make Music New Haven – NMS Recital Hall
Thursday, June 21, 4:00 – 6:00 pm
Make Music New Haven is a live, free musical celebration on June 21, the longest day of the year, with concerts on streets, sidewalks, and parks across the city. Communities around the world will be joining in this celebration of music on June 21. NMS will be hosting an open mic for all students and faculty from 4-6 pm. Sign up at the door. Dancing with Parkinson’s Community Event – NMS Recital Hall

Neighborhood Music School, in collaboration with Mark Morris Dance Group’s Dance for PD® program and The International Festival of Arts & Ideas, presents a Dancing with Parkinson’s Community Event. Registration is required, events are free. For more information and to register, click here.
• 10 am: Dance for PD® Masterclass: Teaching artists from Mark Morris Dance Group’s Dance for PD® program, including founding teacher and Dance for PD® program director David Leventhal, will offer a stimulating, accessible and enjoyable class that includes excerpts from Mark Morris’ Pepperland, an homage to the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper album. No dance experience required. All levels of ability and mobility are welcome.
• 11:15 am: Film Screening and Panel Discussion: Join us for a screening of Home Exercises by Brown University student Sarah Friedland, mentored by Rachel Balaban, Brown lecturer and Neighborhood Music School’s Dancing with Parkinson’s (DwP) instructor. After the film, you’ll have a chance to ask questions of our dance experts.
Dance Concerts – Educational Center for the Arts

This year, for the first time, we are excited to present a bonafide musical theatre experience by our Triple Threat classes – “The Wiz!” Tickets for this family-friendly, high-energy production will be $15.00 per person (age 12 & above). We hope you will “ease on down” to see a familiar story told in a new way. Tickets for Saturday’s three amazing concerts will also be $15.00 per person (age 12 & above.) This ticket will admit you into any or all of the Dance Concerts on Saturday. Come experience the end product of our unique collaborative choreography process. NMS Dancers can enjoy free admission to any performance they are not dancing in. The Premier Dance Company will be performing in all 3 shows, featuring selections from “The Wiz” in all 3 shows.

Jr. Chamber and Chamber Winds
Ensembles for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and French horn players with some experience. All ages can explore the joy of collaborating with fellow musicians and playing together, including performance opportunities.

This five-day intensive offers small ensembles, big bands, theory, master classes and jam sessions, all taught by NMS faculty and noted guest clinician, master percussionist Ed Fast. Participants learn from the best, and top off the week with a student concert!

All-new and ready to roll…Summer Rocks! 2018: Everybody In! makes sure to bring the biggest jump to the party. An exciting, student-driven popular music program, Summer Rocks! emphasizes and celebrates each participant’s creative voice as they build important musical and interpersonal skills in a fabulously supportive and diverse community.

During the third week of August, for two hours every evening, the Adult Summer Rock and Roll intensive rules the night at Neighborhood Music School. This year, we let the big kids out to play, as participants are taken on a very special Rock and Roll ride by Master Teachers representing a wide variety of genres, approaches, and skills. Adult students will be matched with other bandmates, make new friends, gather potent skills, and develop new levels of musical competence and confidence.
