When I arrived in New Haven in 1994, NMS was one of my very first stops. Having grown up in rural Maine I did not have the opportunity for dance and music lessons and it was something I deeply wanted for my daughters. Since then, NMS has been our family's second home. Our two daughters have taken advantage of the full range of classes at NMS: Preschool, dance, drama, Audubon Arts, Summer Rocks, piano, and singing. And at 50 I took my very first piano lesson at NMS! Through my daughters and NMS I have learned new ways to bring joy and creative expression into all the work I do. My professional background is in anthropology and tropical ecology and when not at NMS I teach classes in environmental justice, political ecology, and human rights. Most recently I have been working on a project on New Haven’s environmental history and the ways in which structural racism is inscribed in the urban landscape. BA, Harvard, magna cum laude PhD with distinction, Yale University.
